Former Council Chair Roisin Mulgrew Joins Aontú

Aontú Leader Peadar Tóibín TD has expressed his delight in officially welcoming former Newry, Mourne and Down Council Chairperson Roisin Mulgrew to the party.

An Teachta Tóibín confirmed today that Ms. Mulgrew has joined the Aontú movement and will contest the upcoming election in the North of  Ireland, offering a principled, common-sense alternative for the people of the region.

Speaking on the announcement the Deputy said  “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Róisín Mulgrew to Aontú. Róisín is a woman of integrity and a dedicated community activist who has spent years on the front lines for the people of Newry and South Armagh.

She brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of standing up for her community. Her decision to join us shows that people are looking for a party that puts families and communities first.”

“During her nine-year tenure in local government, Roisin Mulgrew distinguished herself working for the region  Serving as the Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council. Roisin has been a vocal and consistent campaigner for the protection of services at Daisy Hill Hospital.

She has lead the Enterprise, Regeneration and Tourism Committee, where she championed the Newry City Centre Regeneration and the redevelopment of Newry Canal. Roisin also Overaw rural development programmes that delivered vital infrastructure and support to local groups.”

“Roisin  enters this new chapter with a formidable electoral history. In the last election she contested she secured a commanding 1,659 first preference votes, representing over 14% of the total vote share. This achievement saw her elected on the very first count, reflecting the deep trust the electorate holds in her leadership.”
