King Welcomes Confirmation of Ferryhill Road Resurfacing Works

Sinn Féin councillor Cathal King has welcomed confirmation that resurfacing works are now scheduled for Ferryhill Road, including the section leading towards the Flagstaff viewpoint.

Councillor King said he has consistently raised the condition of the road since being elected, after discussing directly the concerns with local residents and regular users, and worked hard to secure the investment needed to have the issue addressed.

Following the recent funding announcement secured by Liz Kimmins, Councillor King has been informed that the works will now move ahead. “We want to commend Minister Liz Kimmins for her clear commitment to rural infrastructure and for delivering for this area,” he said.

Councillor King added that the resurfacing works are important not only for those who use the road daily, but also in preparation for increased traffic linked to access routes associated with the long-awaited Narrow Water Bridge project.

Welcoming the announcement, Sinn Féin Newry and Armagh MP Dáire Hughes said

“The confirmation of works is welcome news for local residents and road users who have raised concerns about the condition of Ferryhill Road over a long period.

“Continued investment in rural roads is vital to ensure communities remain connected, safe and properly served, particularly as the area prepares for increased use and future infrastructure development.

Councillor King concluded by saying he will continue to keep residents updated as timelines and traffic management arrangements are confirmed.
