Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has welcomed the launch of a public consultation on the new approach to road maintenance by the Infrastructure Minister.
The party’s transport spokesperson said:
“Historic underinvestment in public services here, as a result of British government cuts, has undoubtedly led to the poor conditions of some of our roads, including the number of potholes and other road surface defects.
“It is clear that to improve the quality of our roads network, we must do things differently. I therefore welcome the announcement by the Infrastructure Minister that higher quality, sustainable and more targeted maintenance is at the heart of this new plan.
“The use of new technology such as digital surveys to assess potholes and other road conditions will help deliver a better, more sustainable service that meets the needs of road users.
“I would encourage the public to have its say on the consultation launched by the Department for Infrastructure on the draft Roads Maintenance Strategy.”
