Sinn Féin Newry Armagh MLA Liz Kimmins has said there can be no tolerance for racism as police data highlights the need for civic and political leadership.
The Newry Armagh MLA was speaking after data released by the PSNI shows that race hate crime is at a record level in the north.
LIz Kimmins said:
“Reports that racist hate crimes have risen is deeply worrying and demands the most vocal response from civic and political leaders.
“Our minority ethnic communities make a crucial and valued contribution to our economy and society.
“Sinn Féin will continue to work with them to ensure their concerns are addressed and to help build an inclusive community.
“There can be no tolerance for racism or hate crimes; no one should be targeted because of their race, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or identity.
“And I would encourage anyone to report any such incidents to the police.”
