Newry SDLP Councillor Michael Savage has condemned an early morning arson attack on a children’s play park.
“I and my Newry SDLP colleagues were contacted this morning by parents and local residents expressing their disgust that a bench within the newly constructed play park at Loanda had been destroyed by arsonists”.
“It appears a fire has been intentionally ignited on the table of the bench which has not only deemed the bench unusable but has also damaged the soft play surface underneath.”
“The SDLP fought hard for this state-of-the-art play facility for local children and the recent spell of good weather has seen it being utilised even more than before by children and families alike.”
“Arsonists have no regard for their community and are only hurting their own neighbours, family and friends.” “I have been in contact with our council this morning regarding this incident and I encourage anyone with information about those responsible to contact the Police, I also urge local residents to remain vigilant and report
any similar behaviour to Police immediately.”
