Nicola Grant has said there is a real sense of frustration and anger from the people of Newry and beyond around what will happen to, and what will be the impact of any changes to the status of Daisy Hill Hospital. Residents are quite rightly saying that the fact that the meeting to discuss their hospital, and other Newry based health facilities was scheduled for Armagh. Speaks volumes. People in Newry are now asking are they considered second class citizens? by the Health authorities.
Nicola continued it is no surprise that those who agreed these proposals, that will have such a detrimental and devastating impact on the Newry area. With all the health complexities, compounded by the staggering statistics on health inequalities. Cannot construct reasonable and viable answers on why they are making these recommendations. Apart from balancing the books on the backs of working class people who are struggling with poverty deprivation and health inequalities.
Nicola concluded our political leaders are going to have to say enough is enough. It is all very well to declare that we must live within our given budgets. If they are not the ones struggling to make end meet on a daily basis with your health getting progressively worse because of the health inequalities you have been forced to endure for decades. The people of Newry deserve much more than the indifference that it would seem is being shown to them.
