Finn Condemns Illegal Dumping in Local Parks

SDLP Councillor Doire Finn has expressed outrage at the recent incident of illegal dumping in Kilmorey and Heather Park’s.

“I have recently been contacted by residents of the greater Church Street area regarding the ongoing spate of dumping and fly tipping across our green spaces. Our parks should be places of enjoyment and relaxation for everyone, not dumping grounds for fly-tippers.

The Newry City representative continued.

“Upon inspection I was disgusted to find several household appliances along with bags of rubbish dumped. Our parks are frequently used by families, children, and dog walkers alike and they simply should not have to put up with their recreational space looking more like a dump. Council Household Recycling Centres are open throughout the week and a collection service for large items can be booked for a small fee.

“I am relieved to report that following my referrals, the items have now been removed, I would however appeal to those who choose to fly-tip to cease immediately and would further encourage anyone with any information regarding these incidents to contact Council Environmental Health officers in confidence.

“Our parks are precious resources, and we must protect them for future generations.

“Your SDLP team will continue to fight illicit dumping in our community.”
