Colder and Very Unsettled Conditions Next Week

By Meaneys Weather

Our weather has been pretty boring recently with not much in a way of any significant change apart from the last 24 hours where we have seen things turn a little cooler and more of that fog lingering but as we head into next week there will be a big change as colder arctic air moves in from the north on Sunday night.

Currently what looks certain is that we are going to see temperatures dropping significantly, given that we had a few days of temperatures well into the high teens last week. We can expect daytime temperatures struggling to get past 5C and overnight lows of up to -5C.

Then comes the big question…is it going to snow?  My answer is yes it will snow next week but  that cannot be correctly forecasted at this time as the charts are all over the place and it’s still too far out to be in any way accurate.

At the moment what I would be concerned about is a deep area of low pressure that looks very likely to come in from the Atlantic on Tuesday which will be full of rain and strong winds. Now this system will slam right into the cold air from the north and will no doubt produce some wintry precipitation, most likely across the northern half of the country and that will fall as snow over high ground, maybe even lower levels may see some accumulations.

Take note that before that happens we will have some strong northerly winds on Sunday night into Monday which will bring a significant windchill. Now don’t be holding me to ransom with the information I’ve provided right now because things could change massively, just saying.

Next week is going to be very interesting and busy for all of us fans of the weather. I’m already waking up in the middle of the night checking the models.

Just be prepared for some very cold and unsettled weather with a good chance of snowfall for some. It’s going to be another couple of days at least before anything can be firmed up.
