Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a report that a woman had her purse stolen by a man in Newry, Friday 17th May.
The woman reported that she was at public seating in the Hill Street area of the city at around 10.10am when the man, described as being fair haired and aged in his late 30s, stole her purse and ran off.
It is believed that he was wearing navy shorts and a navy jacket with a blue and white stripe on the front, along with dark trainers.
We received a further report of an attempted bag theft from another woman in the Merchant Quay area at around 9.10am today.
The woman stated that she was approached by a man who came from the Sugar Island direction. He attempted to pull her bag off her shoulder before he fell back into a lamppost, and then made off empty-handed in the direction of Edward Street.
Sergeant Irwin said: “Enquiries are continuing and at this stage, police are investigating a potential link between these incidents.
“Our enquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone with information, particularly anyone was travelling in the area at the relevant times and who may have dashcam footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 717 of 17/05/24.”
