Delay To Ballynasclosha Road Reinstatement Totally Unacceptable

Slieve Gullion area Sinn Féin Councillor Áine Quinn has said that the continued delay to fully repairing and reopening the Ballynaclosha Road in Silverbridge is totally unacceptable.

The local Councillor said,

“I share the frustration of local residents and business’s impacted by the ongoing closure of the road. They suffer serious inconvenience on a daily basis.

Since 2021 we have had undertakings from Roads Service that the works would be completed, this has not happened. What is needed now is a firm commitment and a proper timescale as to when the issues involved will be addressed and the road reopened”.

Councillor Quinn continued,

“Work had commenced to address the issues of concern as to the condition of the Ballynaclosha Road Silverbridge. Unfortunately there was a partial collapse of the wall during the works. Following the collapse work was halted while working methods were reviewed to minimise any further potential health and safety risks.

A commitment from the Department for Infrastructure (DfI) as far back as 2021 was given that the work would be completed within months. However the road remains closed”.

The Sinn Féin elected representative concluded, “The impact of the situation on local residents and business situated on the Ballynaclosha Road cannot be underestimated. It is totally unacceptable. What is needed is a clear commitment to addressing the situation and a strict timetable of exactly when it will be finished”.
