Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has welcomed action from the Infrastructure Minister to tackle the MOT backlog and delays.
The party’s transport spokesperson said:
“I welcome the introduction of one-year Temporary Exemption Certificates for private cars first registered between 1 June 2019 and 31 May 2020 or between 1 June 2017 and 31 May 2018, which have a valid MOT certificate issued by the Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA).
“The Temporary Exemption Certificates will come into effect from 1 June 2024 and will be automatically processed by the DVA.
“This will help reduce waiting times for MOT centres across the north, as will the hiring of additional DVA staff.
“This announcement by Minister O’Dowd will to help tackle the MOT backlog and get drivers better and more timely access to vehicle testing.”
