Portugal is to be taken off the travel green list, it is understood.
The popular holiday destination is being removed from the green list in England and will be added to the amber list.
It follows a meeting between the UK and devolved governments and advice from the joint biosecurity centre, the BBC is reporting.
The Stormont Executive are understood to have discussed the issue during a meeting on Thursday and the BBC’s Jayne McCormack reports an official announcement is expected later with Portugal being moved to Northern Ireland’s amber list.
Portugal was added to Northern Ireland‘s green list last Monday.
