Urgent Action Needed to Tackle Blue Green Algae at Lough Ross- Finnegan

Sinn Féin councillor Aoife Finnegan has said that the confirmation of Blue Green algae in Lough Ross is deeply concerning and must be urgently tackled.

The Slieve Gullion councillor said:

“The report from NI water which confirms the presence of Blue Green algae in Lough Ross is extremely concerning.

“Not only is Lough Ross a popular destination for local people, but it is also the source of much of the drinking water for Crossmaglen and the surrounding area.

“We have contacted NI water, asking them for a report on the current situation and requesting to meet them on site to demand urgent action in addressing this issue.

“Lough Ross is a fantastic asset for the local community, with huge potential for development, it’s vital that it is kept safe and sustainable for future generations.
