Sinn Féin councillor Aidan Mathers Has welcomed the positive update on funding for the Newry City park.
The Newry City councillor said:
“Tonight we received a positive update from senior council officials on funding for the Newry City Park project.
“After working with the Department for Communities, they are now awaiting final confirmation, which we believe is imminent, to begin using the £16.2M that was delivered for the project by my colleague Conor Murphy MLA as Finance Minister, to begin phase one of works for the park.
“We believe that a first class park in Newry will be a key part of the exciting city regeneration plan.
“This will bring many benefits, greatly improving the tourism potential of Newry as well as offering much needed green space in the city centre, giving a space for exercise as well providing a positive impact on the local environment and air quality.
“Sinn Féin is fully committed to delivering a first class park for the people of Newry to enjoy and will continue to press the council to ensure this is a key priority for them.
