Sinn Féin Councillor Oonagh Magennis has said that the council must ensure locals have a properly equipped play park for the summer months.
The Slieve Gullion councillor said:
“Coming into the summer months, it’s vital that local children have a proper space to play safely with their friends.
“The recent removal of over half of the equipment in the play park with no prior warning, angered many residents. More so when the council said that this was because the equipment was no longer safe for use.
“I met with council officials in Belleeks and made it very clear that they needed to resolve this situation as a priority.
“They admitted that they had handled the situation badly and have committed to coming up with alternative solutions for the park.
“While a short term solution to lack of play facilities will be welcome, it’s absolutely vital that Belleeks play park is listed for brand new play facilities in the upcoming review to ensure that children will have a safe and well equipped play park for years to come.
