Clear Communication Needed From Southern Trust – Mathers

Sinn Féin Councillor Aidan Mathers has said that the Southern Trust needs to clearly communicate with elected reps, staff and the community as they deliver a stabilisation plan for Daisy Hill.

Speaking after a special council meeting with the head of the Southern Trust, the Newry City councillor said:

“Tonight we pressed the Southern Trust for answers about the current situation at Daisy Hill and how they plan to secure services at the hospital.

“While we welcome their plan to stabilise services at Daisy Hill and their investment in a new scanner for the Emergency department, we now need to see action.

“It’s vital that they clearly communicate with us as elected reps as well as with hospital staff and the community as they begin work on their plan to stabilise services at Daisy Hill.

“Many feel as though there has been poor communication from the Trust throughout this crisis and they must address this in order to rebuild the confidence of hospital staff and people in the community.

“Clear communication, along with securing the safe delivery of services at the hospital will provide the security and certainty needed to help attract new staff to work in Daisy Hill to replace those that were lost by the mismanagement of the Trust.
