Brady Urges Department to Prioritise Delivery of Newry Health Hub

Sinn Féin MP Mickey Brady has urged the Department of Health to prioritise the delivery of the Community Care Hub in Newry.

The Newry and Armagh MP spoke after writing to the Permanent secretary for Health, asking for details on a timeline for delivering the hub and urging him to prioritise the project.

“The ‘Community Health Hub’ will provide more services for local patients, easing the pressures on Daisy Hill and freeing up more space within the Hospital itself so we welcome the recent investment of £4.5M to secure the land to build the hub.

“This is a key project in transforming local healthcare and I have written to the permanent secretary for Health, asking him for a timeline on the hub and to prioritise its delivery.

“The announcement of this funding comes on the back of a number of positive developments for Daisy Hill.

“Becoming a centre for elective surgery, the £9M investment to upgrade electrical infrastructure and the Southern Trust’s purchase of the Monaghan Row site are all key steps in not only securing the safe delivery of Daisy Hill’s services but also in working to expand them.

“In order to maintain this positive momentum, we need to see an Executive in place with parties working together to prioritise investment into our Health service, protecting it and our workers from cruel Troy cuts.”
