SDLP Newry City Councillor Doire Finn has welcomed the decision to reverse plans to cut youth and early years services.
Speaking to Clanrye News and Sport Councillor Finn said:
“I think that it is welcome that the decision has been taken to not proceed with a number of planned cuts to youth services and early years programmes. People in particular mentioned their worries around sure start and Toybox services to me, and I am pleased to see that these cuts will not go ahead.
Despite this decision we cannot lose sight of the fact that many harmful cuts are still going ahead, including school counselling and holiday hunger payments and this is unacceptable. I hope that we will soon see the institutions restored so that cuts like this can be opposed and mitigated against.”
