Local Alliance councillor and South Down constituency representative, Patrick Brown, was joined by Party Leader and Justice Minister Naomi Long MLA and Cllr McMurray at a virtual public meeting that gave the local community a chance to engage directly on issues being faced in the area and NI-wide.
The virtual public meeting, hosted by South Down Alliance, was on Tuesday 27th April, and attendees included members of the public, community groups and businesses from across the district.
Cllr Brown said: “This meeting was an opportunity for voices across the community to be heard around concerns that matter to local people. As Northern Irish politics is thrown into uncertainty once more with the recent resignation of the First Minister and the ongoing Brexit fallout, now more than ever there is a clear need for political stability.”
“Throughout the meeting, in her role as Party Leader, Minister Long clearly set out the position the Alliance Party will play moving forward and expanded on the strategy ahead of the 2022 Assembly election.”
Cllr Brown continued: “Throughout the evening, many thought-provoking questions were raised; from the need to offer key workers a fair living wage not simply token gestures, through to investment and regeneration in Downpatrick, to the approach the Alliance Party would take around a border poll.”
“I would like to thank Minister Long, Councillor McMurray, the meeting chair Helena Young and all attendees for joining and being a part of the lively discussion. I would encourage those who are interested to listen back to the event, which can be shared by emailing me at Patrick.brown@southdownalliance.org.”
