A Sinn Féin delegation, including party Vice President Michelle O’Neill MLA, Caoimhe Archibald MLA and National Chairperson Declan Kearney MLA, today met the northern leadership of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) on the Good Jobs Bill.
The engagement with the ICTU delegation was held to discuss delivery of the Good Jobs Employment Rights legislation being brought forward through the Executive and Assembly.
Declan Kearney MLA said:
Today’s meeting with ICTU was a welcome opportunity to review progress on the drafting and implementation of this game-changing legislation and the positive change it will deliver.
“The Good Jobs Bill will introduce the most progressive workers’ rights reforms ever introduced in the north. This legislation will bring benefits to all working families across the north. It will positively support workers, families, businesses and trade unions, by helping to build fairer workplaces and a stronger, more productive economy.
“The proposals to empower trade unions were particularly welcomed by the delegation today. These legislate for stronger union representation, collective bargaining rights and worker protections. The Congress delegation emphasised the importance of a smooth passage for the bill to maximise its full legislative potential. We agreed on the need for widespread engagement across all sectors and political parties to encourage whole of society support.
“International experience confirms that jobs, which deliver fair wages and guarantee secure employment, with strong union recognition and collective bargaining rights, are central to economic models which flourish, and value inclusive growth and fairer distribution of wealth. This is the ambition of the Good Jobs Bill and what it aims to deliver.”
