Hughes and Mathers Welcome Resurfacing Works for Main Avenue Derrybeg

Sinn Féin MP Dáire Hughes and local Sinn Féin Councillor Aidan Mathers have welcomed confirmation that resurfacing works for Main Avenue Derrybeg Newry have been approved.

Dáire Hughes MP said:

“We are delighted that resurfacing works for Main Avenue Derrybeg have been approved. This is a major piece of work and very welcome news for local residents and road users.

“This road is a key route for school traffic, including buses, as well as commuters travelling into the city centre and beyond. Improving its condition will enhance safety and accessibility for everyone who relies on it.

“We have worked closely with the local community to secure this resurfacing, listening to residents’ concerns and pushing for the investment needed to deliver this improvement.”

Councillor Aidan Mathers added:

“This is a significant investment for the Derrybeg area and will make a real difference to families, pupils and commuters.

“We want to commend Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins for her continued commitment to road infrastructure and road safety. This approval reflects a clear focus on delivering safer, better-quality roads for our communities.”

Dáire Hughes MP concluded:

“Sinn Féin will continue working with communities and statutory agencies to drive investment into our local areas and deliver the infrastructural improvements people deserve.”
