Ulster GAA has confirmed in a letter to local residents that, next week, long-awaited construction will begin on the Casement Park stadium in west Belfast.
SDLP Justin McNulty MLA has consistently been outspoken on the need to get Casement Park built, and lamented the fact that there hasn’t been a ball kicked there since 2013.
Mr McNulty stated:
“Not before time we are finally going to see works commence on the construction of the new Casement Park Stadium. A whole generation of hurlers, footballers, camogie players, and ladies Gaelic footballers will have missed the opportunity to play on Casement’s hallowed turf. Much more than just a stadium, Casement Park can be the beating heart of the GAA in Ulster. I think it’s important that our Executive now share the construction programme completion date as well as detailing how funding gaps will be reconciled.
It’s time to get Casement Park built.”
