Councillor Valerie Harte has welcomed the announcement of over £800,000 in public realm and road improvements for Newry by the Departments for Communities and Infrastructure.
Speaking after the joint announcement, Councillor Harte described the scheme as a major delivery for Newry and its communities.
“We have been lobbying DFI for a number of years for a crossing at this very busy part of our city, and it is great to see that now becoming a reality.
“This is a hugely positive investment, the new toucan crossing and resurfacing works will improve safety, accessibility and the overall quality of this area for pedestrians and road users.
“I want to commend my Sinn Féin colleague, Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins for the delivery of this important scheme for Newry. Minister Kimmins continues to show that she is focused on getting real results for local communities.
“This joint scheme also shows the value of effective partnership working between government departments.
“Sinn Féin is committed to driving investment into our local communities and delivering practical improvements that make a real difference.”
