Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has praised the work of Finance Minister John O’Dowd in fighting for fairer funding for public services.
The Newry and Armagh MLA was speaking following a debate in the Assembly on the Executive’s multi-year budget.
“Fifteen years of British government austerity has left our public services and workers on their knees.”
“I want to commend the work of Caoimhe Archibald and now John O’Dowd in securing over a billion pounds extra for frontline services.
“Despite this, the Executive remains underfunded, and Minister O’Dowd is working to secure a long-term plan to properly fund the needs of our communities. This includes pressing the British government for powers to fairly raise money here at home.
“More funding would enable ministers to invest in good-quality public services such as health and education and continue paying workers a fair wage.
“In the coming weeks, the Finance Minister will bring forward a multi-year budget for consideration which will support the delivery of better public services.
“Sinn Féin will continue to press the British government for a better deal for workers and families here, enabling us to invest in coms and frontline services.”
