Evora Hospice Invites You to “Light Up a Life” This Christmas

As Christmas approaches, Evora Hospice warmly invites the community to pause and reflect on the cherished memories of loved ones through its annual Light Up a Life appeal.

This heartfelt event offers a meaningful way to honour the memory of those who hold a special place in our hearts by dedicating a light on Evora Hospice’s Christmas tree to them. Each light shines as a symbol of remembrance, love, and celebration — a beacon for someone dearly missed.

The main Light Up a Life ceremony will take place on Thursday 11th December at 7.30pm in the grounds of the Hospice at Courtney Hill, Newry. This special evening includes Christmas carols, warming refreshments and the illumination of their very special Christmas tree. It is open to everyone, not just those who have been touched by the Hospice’s care, but to all who wish to remember someone special this festive season.

Louise Stewart, Hospice Inpatient Services Manager, said:
“Christmas is often a time when the absence of a loved one is felt even more deeply. Through this special event, we offer a space for people to come together — to remember, reflect, and honour those they hold close in their hearts. It’s a gentle reminder that although they may no longer be with us, their presence is still very much felt especially at this time of year, many families find real comfort from that.”

In addition to the Newry ceremony, Evora Hospice will also host two other community events:

  • Dungannon Ceremony: Wednesday 26th November at 10.00am, Mid Ulster Council Office
  • Craigavon Ceremony: Friday 5th December at 12.00pm, Civic Centre

These events provide communities across the region with the opportunity to come together in remembrance and support.

The Light Up a Life appeal is made possible thanks to the generous support of Gordons Chemists and Killowen Contracts Limited.
