Police investigating reports of an assault and linked reports in the Camlough Road and Patrick Street area of Newry on Friday evening, 7th November have charged three people to court.
A man, aged 31, was charged with a number of offences, including wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A man aged 27 was charged with a number of offences, including possession of an offensive weapon with intent to cause an indictable offence and wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A 25-year-old woman was also charged with a number of offences, including assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.
All three were due to appear before Newry Magistrates Court today, Monday, 10th November.
As is usual procedure, all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
A man aged 33 and a woman aged 25, who were also arrested, have since been released on bail to allow for further police enquiries.
Neighbourhood Policing Team Inspector Gibson said: “We would like to reassure the local community that we take all reports and incidents of this nature extremely seriously and our enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
“We understand that people who were in the area that evening and observed what happened, as well as those living in the surrounding area, are very concerned about the events which took place. Our Neighbourhood Policing Team officers are working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding this and we believe that there is no ongoing risk to the general public.
