MsGrant said she is concerned that a text she received from Clanrye Medical Practice will lead to confusion and anxiety to certain categories of patients. The message said that Gps are taking collective action against the Department of Health because of their refusal to engage in negotiations with the BMA over contracts which they say is essential to secure the future of GP services. They are informing patients that they have been advised by the BMA GPs must adhere to the safe guidance of 25 contacts per day and patients will need to seek help from alternative source when capacity has been reached ending with, please contact your MLA to discuss further.
Ms. Grant said whilst the Workers Party has always supported the right to collective bargaining, this text message mentioning alternative sources requires clarification as to what alternative sources they mean, are they advising patients to go to emergency departments, private providers, or what other sources? The Department and GPs need to give more appropriate guidance to patients, particularly those who are vulnerable.
