Sinn Féin Councillor Aidan Mathers has invited the people of Newry and beyond to attend the local launch of Our Martin — a powerful new book celebrating the life and legacy of Martin McGuinness.
The event will take place on Friday, 7th November at 7:00pm in Derrybeg Community Centre, Newry, and promises to be a special evening of reflection and remembrance.
Councillor Mathers said:
“I’m delighted to host the Newry launch of Our Martin, a book that beautifully captures the life, leadership, and humanity of Martin McGuinness.
“Martin’s journey — from community activist to political leader and international peacemaker — continues to inspire people across Ireland and beyond. This event offers us all a chance to come together, share memories, and celebrate his enduring contribution to peace and progress.”
“The evening will feature contributions from guest speaker Liz Kimmins MLA, Sean Hughes, and the book’s author Jim “Flash” McVeigh, who will share insights into Martin’s life and legacy as reflected in the book’s stories and rare photographs.
“This will be a relaxed and community-focused evening,” Cllr Mathers added. “Everyone is very welcome to come along, enjoy the discussion, and pick up a copy of this beautiful commemorative edition.
“Sinn Féin remains firmly committed to carrying forward Martin’s legacy — building a united, peaceful, and just Ireland where everyone has a place and a voice.”
