Ms. Grant commented after the Chancellor’s early morning press conference this week said, “What a waste of time as it turned out to be uneventful, with heavy emphasis on business, defense, and the national debt. These are all the reasons traditionally given when the working class is about to be shafted. Ms. Grant continued it sounded very much like the ground was being laid for tax increases, but with little indication of what groups would be hit the hardest, we can only hope it will be those who benefit from large profits on groceries, energy , and private landlords, to mention but a few.
The Workers Party is calling on the Labour Government to ensure that the party conference decision on the two child benefit cap is implemented in this year’s budget, and if they chancellor is serious about the cost of living crisis that working class people are suffering and struggling with day by day. She takes concrete action and implements price controls, on rents, groceries, energy, and leaves the welfare benefits alone, until the government puts in place a real living wage, and stops supplementing employers who are paying low wages.
Ms. Grant ended by saying I hope this time the chancellor is serious when she says she will defend our public services, and there will be no return to austerity measures, but the jury is still very much out, as to whether she is or not.
