Justin McNulty SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh calls for urgent action to prevent suicide.
In a recent Assembly Question, McNulty impressed upon the Executive Office the need to assess the merit of mental health and suicide awareness training for frontline staff.
Suicide prevention charity, Samaritans gave evidence to an All-Party Group in Stormont on Tuesday, October 21st, highlighting the necessity for legislation providing proper training to ensure all emergency services workers and all frontline staff are knowledgeable on how to best help people experiencing a mental health crisis.
McNulty states:
“Hearing from advocates during the All-Party Group on Suicide Prevention was harrowing, and reinforced the need for the First Ministers to explore and implement life-saving measures like suicide awareness training for frontline workers across the North.”
