Sinn Féin Councillor Valerie Harte has welcomed the start of works on Rathfriland Road to construct a new pedestrian island.
“I’m pleased to see this important project now underway. I have worked closely with the Department for Infrastructure to ensure the need for improved pedestrian safety on Rathfriland Road was recognised and prioritised.
“This work is a welcome step forward and will greatly enhance safety for both residents and pedestrians.
“I also commend Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins for her strong commitment to balanced regional development and improving road safety across our communities.
“Sinn Féin will continue to push for vital investment in road safety and essential infrastructure to meet the needs of all our people. I will keep residents fully updated as this work progresses.
“We will be meeting with Minister Liz Kimmins onsite at Crieve Road this week to discuss further measures.”
