New Guidance to Tackle Unfinished Roads In Housing Developments Welcomed – Boylan

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has welcomed the publication of revised guidance by the Infrastructure Minister to stop new housing developments being left with unfinished roads, footpaths and streetlights.

The new guidance sets a clear point for when enforcement will begin and is backdated to developments with bonds from 1 January 2024.

Mr Boylan, a member of the Assembly’s Infrastructure Committee, said:

“Homeowners who purchase a property in good faith are often left frustrated when roads, footpaths and streetlights remain unadopted for years.

“To prevent this from happening again, the Infrastructure Minister has updated guidance to establish a clear starting point for enforcement action on developers.

“This will help reduce the department’s backlog and ensure families buying a home are protected, while also supporting developers.

“Sinn Féin will continue working to improve our streets, towns and cities.”
