Speaking after delivering both the opening and closing remarks at this evening’s Communities Leading Change event in Newry, Sinn Féin Councillor Aidan Mathers described it as a fantastic display of local energy, ideas, and leadership.
“This has been a brilliant evening for Newry. What we saw tonight was community power in action — people stepping forward with creative, practical solutions and taking ownership of change in their area.
“This isn’t just about distributing funding — it’s about empowering communities, creating meaningful change in local communities, and responding directly to local needs.
Councillor Mathers extended his thanks and reaffirmed Sinn Féin’s commitment:
“A huge thank you to the local groups, residents, council staff, and partners who made this possible. The energy and engagement in the room showed exactly what can be achieved when people and communities are empowered.
“Sinn Féin will continue to support and expand participatory processes like Communities Leading Change — because we know that when communities lead, real change happens.”
