SDLP Leader Claire Hanna MP has acknowledged a United Nations Commission finding that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza.
She was speaking after meeting Palestinian Ambassador to the UK Husam Zomlot.
South Belfast and Mid Down MP Claire Hanna said:
“The United Nations has declared what we already know – that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. This statement is powerful, particularly given the UK Government’s continued denial of the genocide that is unfolding before our eyes.
“The Palestinian Ambassador today outlined the horrifying situation in Gaza, as well as the degradation of the rule of international law. Not only is the UK Government denying genocide, they are continuing to trade with Netanyahu’s regime. This emboldens his government and gives them cover for their actions.
“The Prime Minister should be holding Israel accountable and he must raise this directly with Donald Trump, alongside a commitment to restore and uphold international law. Israel cannot be allowed to act with impunity while innocent civilians are murdered.”
