Sinn Féin Councillor Aidan Mathers has condemned joyriding in the Meadow Area and has called on anyone with information to come forward to the police.
“I strongly condemn the anti-social and criminal behaviour that occurred this evening in the Meadow area of Newry, where a number of cars were damaged in a joyriding incident.
“This reckless behaviour has caused fear and frustration in the local community. Residents have every right to feel safe in their homes and in their neighbourhood, and those responsible have shown no regard for the wellbeing or safety of local residents.
“I am engaging with the police and relevant statutory agencies to ensure that those involved are identified and held accountable.
“I will continue to work to ensure the safety of our community and support efforts to prevent further incidents.
“I urge anyone with information to come forward to the police. This type of behaviour has no place in our communities — and it will not be tolerated.”
