SDLP Newry & Armagh MLA Justin McNulty has praised the efforts of local man Cearon Finnegan, who hosted a unique and heartfelt fundraiser in Newry last week to raise awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Cearon, who is living with MND, brought humour and humanity to the event by racing a tortoise in his wheelchair — a powerful and symbolic act that shone a light on the physical challenges of the condition in a way that engaged and moved the local community.
Speaking after attending the event, Justin McNulty MLA said:
“Cearon’s fundraiser was both inspiring and uplifting. His courage, creativity, and sense of humour not only brought people together, but also delivered a powerful message about the daily realities of living with MND.
“By turning his own journey into an opportunity to raise awareness and funds, Cearon has shown what true resilience and community spirit look like. I want to commend him, his family, and everyone who supported the event.
“Events like this are not only vital for fundraising — they are vital for raising voices. Cearon’s message was heard loud and clear, and I know it will resonate far beyond Newry.”
