Saoradh Newry Condemns Stormont Expenses Scandal

Saoradh, the Revolutionary Socialist Republican party, condemns in the strongest possible terms the obscene revelation that over £1.9 million has been squandered by MLAs in Stormont on office comforts, tech gadgets, and personal travel perks, all while our communities continue to suffer under brutal cuts, poverty wages, and systemic neglect.

The latest figures expose the rotten core of partitionist governance. While working-class families across the Six Counties are forced to choose between heating and eating, Stormont careerists are treating public funds like a personal slush fund, claiming new iPads, mobile phones, graphic design apps and vanity software while our youth have no future, our hospitals are in crisis, and our people queue at food banks.

This isn’t an isolated incident of excess. It is business as usual in a failed institution designed not to serve, but to subdue. Stormont, born of British imperialism and maintained by a capitalist elite, is not fit for purpose. It functions as a colonial puppet regime, incapable and unwilling to address the root causes of inequality, exploitation, and occupation in our land.

These so-called “representatives”, whether draped in green or orange, have more in common with their British paymasters than they do with the people they pretend to serve. Their loyalty is to their salaries, not to their suffering constituents.

Saoradh rejects the illusion that Stormont can be reformed or salvaged. No amount of panels, salary reviews, or PR spin can hide the truth: Stormont is a barrier to national liberation, equality and true freedom.

We call on workers, republicans, and revolutionaries to reject this corrupt farce and build towards a revolutionary alternative, one that replaces the rotting institutions of British rule with a 32-County Socialist Republic, where wealth is shared, power is returned to the people, and liberation replaces greed.

The reality is that Stormont has never worked.
