Sinn Féin MP Dáire Hughes has welcomed the announcement that 400 new properties in Newry will be connected to the wastewater system.
This innovation will open Newry up for investment for 10 years.
The news came from Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins, who made the announcement with NI Water in the city yesterday.
“Minister Kimmins is working with NI Water on exploring ways to connect properties to the wastewater system through innovation and collaboration,” said the Newry and Armagh MP.
“This approach means hundreds of new homes in Newry can now move forward, enabling both housing and business development.
“While others try to introduce water charges through the back door — hurting workers and families, — Sinn Féin is showing what can be achieved with a different approach.
“This shows what can be done within the minister’s three-pronged plan — which includes securing extra funding for NI Water, consulting on developer contributions, and bringing forward legislation to support sustainable drainage.
“We’ll continue to stand with ordinary people and work to unlock more developments across the north.”
