Tomorrow Newry Mourne & Down councillors vote on the controversial £18m Newry Civic Centre plans. PBP call on them to stop it going ahead.
PBP Newry & Armagh representative Marc Mac Seáin comments:
“At least £10m of the unnecessary costs for this controversial White Elephant will come from area residents, who’ve already had significant rates increases over the past number of years never-mind the eye watering costs of the confused Mourne Gateway project projected to be as much as £50m.
“These ludicrous spends come at the same time as people still live through a cost of living crisis, as the Stormont social housing builds are due to be eviscerated by more than half for 2025, disability support is cut, whilst GP & hospital services are cut to the brink which is most acutely felt in our under resourced border community. The proposed Newry Health Hub remains completely up in the air.
“We urgently need investments in our communities & services, improvements in people’s material conditions rather than this unnecessary Civic Centre.”
