Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan has urged the public to have its say on proposed changes to laws aimed at tackling mobile phone use while driving.
Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins launched a consultation seeking views on strengthening legislation to ensure it is effective and fit for purpose.
“Tackling mobile phone use in vehicles is a vital part of the wider goal of creating safer roads, so I welcome this initiative by Minister Kimmins,” said Mr Boylan, the party’s transport spokesperson.
“The proposed changes would update legislation to equip police to address all forms of irresponsible mobile phone use behind the wheel — including taking photos, recording videos or scrolling while driving.
“Sadly, too many people continue to lose their lives on our roads, and the minister is determined to reduce this toll.
“I encourage everyone to have their say on these proposals and help shape stronger, safer laws.”
