McNulty Calls for Road Safety Upgrades at St. Teresa’s, Tullyherron

Following a productive meeting with the Principal of St. Teresa’s Primary School in Tullyherron, SDLP Newry & Armagh MLA Justin McNulty has reiterated his commitment to ensuring the safety of children, parents, and staff at the school by addressing ongoing road safety concerns.

“I am deeply concerned about the safety risks posed by the current traffic situation outside St. Teresa’s Primary School.  We know that far too often, rural roads see reckless driving, which poses a pronounced risk for children in this rural school. My meeting with Mrs. McCourt the Principal at St. Teresa’s reaffirmed the urgent need for action.

“Road safety is the responsibility of the Department for Infrastructure, and I have raised these issues directly with the Infrastructure Minister.  As a local MLA, the Infrastructure Minister should be attuned to the risks at St. Teresa’s, and I would therefore expect her prompt action to secure the necessary funding and support for the school’s requests.

“Children should be dropped off or picked up and be able to walk to and from school safely, without fear of speeding cars, farm vehicles or potential accidents. St. Teresa’s is an integral part of the community, and we must do everything we can to make the school environment safer for everyone.

“I want to praise the efforts of the school staff and the local community for their ongoing advocacy on this issue to ensure the necessary changes are made.”
