Saoradh utterly condemns the disgraceful racist abuse that five doctors and their families were subjected to in a park in Newry.
This cowardly behaviour has no place in our community and stands in stark contrast to the values of solidarity and equality we strive to uphold.
Stephen Murney, Saoradh’s Newry representative, said: “This vile incident is a shameful reflection of the racism that continues to fester within the structures of a society built on division. Those who come here to work, raise families and contribute positively to our communities, especially those who serve in our health system, should be met with support and respect, not hatred.”
He continued:
“Racism is a deliberate tool used to divide and distract the working class. It serves the interests of capitalism and colonialism, the same systems that oppress and exploit people both at home and abroad.”
“Saoradh stands shoulder to shoulder with all victims of racism, and we remain absolutely committed to building a revolutionary movement that rejects all forms of prejudice. We envision an Ireland that is inclusive, free, and based on the principles of equality and justice for all.”
Murney also called on the local community to take a stand: “We urge people in Newry and across the country to speak out, to show active solidarity, and to make it clear that racism and bigotry will be challenged wherever they raise their heads. There is no place for hate on our streets, in our parks, or in our society.”
