Sinn Féin MP for Newry and Armagh has welcomed confirmation that Newry will be hosting its own Parkrun, with the first event to take place in the very near future.
Speaking after meeting with Parkrun organisers, Dáire Hughes MP said;
“I’m delighted to see that the hugely successful Parkrun initiative is coming to Newry. Parkrun is an open, inclusive 5km run, or walk, hosted in almost 200 different locations across Ireland each week. Tens of thousands of people participate in these community events and it is great to see Newry joining the calendar.
“Our local Sinn Féin team have been engaging with Parkrun for a number of months now. It is great to see this work come to fruition. The location for Newry’s Parkrun will be the scenic Carlingford Lough Greenway, starting at the Albert Basin. In time it will be great to see our Parkrun start from our new city centre park. With plenty of amenities and parking nearby, this is a great opportunity to showcase our city.

“The exact date of the first event is still to be determined but it will be in the coming weeks. Keep an eye on Parkrun social media platforms and their website to keep up to date with information.
