Nicola Grant Workers Party representative has called upon the Department for Infrastructure to act now on a Road Safety issue that has been ongoing for many years without resolution. She has highlighted the serious situation at Five Ways particularly in relation to access in and out of Damolly Retail Park on to the Armagh Road. The Workers Party has reacted angrily that such a serious concern has been ignored for so long.
Nicola says motorists believe it is becoming a death trap, as numerous accidents have already occurred and this is simply not good enough.
Nicola continued, this situation has been ongoing for years and it is unacceptable that no meaningful improvements have been made. This is a health and safety issue and lives will be put at risk if those with the powers and responsibility to do so, don’t take immediate action, to resolve what is a major problem for road users and residents.
Nicola concluded by calling on the Ministers responsible to take a serious look at the structural changes needed to make this area safer for everyone. Lives are being put at risk and action must be taken as accidents will continue to happen and there could well be fatalities as a result. The workers Party is aware that other traffic and road safety measures are being implemented in the newry area and it would make sense to address this issue in conjunction with other planned improvements.
