SDLP Challenges FM on Abysmal Failure to Deliver Promised Legislation

SDLP Leader of the Opposition Matthew O’Toole MLA has challenged First Minister Michelle O’Neill over the Executive’s failure to deliver its 2024 legislation programme.

Speaking in the Assembly chamber on the penultimate plenary sitting day of 2024, Mr O’Toole asked the First Minister to explain why less than 50% of the 2024 Executive Legislative Programme announced in June has been introduced.

Speaking after questions to the First Minister, the Leader of the Opposition said:

“The First Minister was keen to talk about Santa’s delivery today but less keen to talk about the Executive’s failure to deliver even half of the legislation they promised just a few months ago. They set themselves a low bar and missed it, by a long way.

“Though this is the season of goodwill, one would be hard pressed to say the Executive and First Ministers have followed through on the warm words that have dominated the Assembly agenda since February.

“Michelle O’Neill and Emma Little Pengelly may want to consider a New Year’s resolution to replace platitudes and photo opportunities with delivery.”
