MP Carla Lockhart Welcomes Pay and Grading Review Agreement for School Support Staff

Carla Lockhart MP has welcomed the good news that school support staff across Northern Ireland will benefit from an agreed pay and grading review. This resolution, delivered by DUP Minister Paul Givan MLA in partnership with representative unions, marks a significant step forward for the dedicated staff who play such a vital role in supporting our schools.

The agreement will positively impact classroom assistants, EA drivers, canteen staff, maintenance workers, and many more, ensuring they receive well-deserved recognition for their hard work.

Speaking following the announcement Carla Lockhart said:

“This is good news for our school support staff, whose dedication helps keep our schools running smoothly every day. From classroom assistants shaping the learning environment to drivers, canteen, and maintenance staff keeping everything running behind the scenes, this pay and grading review is long overdue recognition for their contribution. Our thanks goes to DUP Minister Paul Givan for assisting in delivering this agreement, alongside the hard work of the representative unions who championed the cause for these employees.

For those involved, the agreement includes; a pay rise to be implemented within this financial year and a lump sum payment of £2,550 to be issued in April 2025.”

She concluded; “This agreement is a positive step forward, and I hope it brings not only financial benefit but also a renewed sense of appreciation for the invaluable work done by our school support staff.”
