SDLP Newry & Armagh MLA Justin McNulty has offered his condolences following the death of Anu Okusanya.
Mr McNulty said:
“The death of Anu Okusanya is shocking and disturbingly sad. She chose to spend her life caring for others as a health worker and when she saw someone being attacked, she instinctively ran out of fear and to raise the alarm to get help for the person.
“Tragically, Anu collapsed and ultimately lost her life in the process and her family have been left to pick up the pieces, utterly devastated by their loss. My thoughts are with all of Anu’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“I cannot begin to understand how consumed by hate someone needs to be to visit violence or repeatedly target someone going about their daily business, especially someone who devoted their life to caring for others. There is great sadness right across the wider Newry area at Anu’s passing and I hope that her family can take some solace from that and the difference she made to the lives of everyone she helped.”
