Louth County Council’s Library Service are delighted to join the Libraries Ireland initiative ‘My Little Library Book Bag’ which has been designed to help children navigate starting primary school.
Libraries Ireland has put together a free ‘My Little Library Book Bag’ for children that can be collected at any library branch in County Louth.
The initiative is a collaboration between libraries, the Department of Rural and Community Development, and the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth as part of the First 5 Strategy.
Louth Library Service is looking forward to welcoming all children who are due to start primary school this September to collect their book bags and begin their library membership journey.
Book bags are available for collection with a choice of an Irish or English title. Each child who joins the library when receiving their My Little Library Book Bag will receive their very own library card and special ‘My Little Library’ cardholder.
Amanda Branigan, Acting County Librarian, Louth County Council said: “We hope that once young children visit the library to pick up their book bag, our new library members will come back regularly to keep their bag filled up with borrowed books and to take part in story times and fun activities which are all free. We are also encouraging parents, guardians and other family members to become library users.”
