Emergency Meeting Called as Newry Businesses Have Had Enough!

Newry businesses have called an emergency meeting as they have had enough with Newry Mourne and Down District Council. The meeting organised by Newry BID will provide an opportunity for local business to voice their concerns.

From rate rises, empty shop units, flood issues and parking particularly North Street car park, it seems Newry businesses demand answers from local Council and their representatives.

Speaking to Clanrye News and Sport Eamonn Connolly from Newry BID.

“Multiple Newry businesses approached Newry BID asking us to facilitate an emergency meeting for Newry businesses to address a range of issues that are negatively impacting upon the centre of Newry.”

“These included:

• Business Rates and the blight of units that arises as a result
• parking and in particular the unease with planning applications from Council that indicate that workers will be charged to use North Street and ratepayers funds will be used to provide a free car park for Council staff at Cecil against a backdrop of a loss of parking associated with the proposed new Civic Centre
• flood risk management including the wider infrastructure deficit for Newry and concerns around the prioritisation of publicly funded expenditure

The businesses are seeking a platform to raise their concerns.”

The meeting itself is scheduled for Wednesday 19^th June at 7pm in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry.
