Positive News as Daisy Hill Hospital Performs Increased Number of Elective Procedures – Kimmins

Sinn Féin MLA Liz Kimmins has welcomed the increase in elective care procedures taking place at Daisy Hill hospital in Newry.

Speaking after the Department of Health released an update on elective care framework outcomes, the party’s health spokesperson said:

“Just one year on from Daisy Hill started operating as an Elective Overnight Stay Centre, thousands of patients have received general surgery, ENT, urology, gynaecology and breast surgeries at the hospital.

Daisy Hill has undoubtedly become an integral part of our elective care network as a result, and it is essential that work continues to ensure it reaches its full potential and delivers for patients”.

The Newry MLA who is also Chairperson of the Assembly Health Committee continued,

“The planned upgrade of the hospital’s electricity will help to future proof the current site and ensure that more modern equipment can be utilised for treating patients.

“More must be done to reduce the number of patients on waiting lists. Patients are waiting too long for treatments that would drastically improve their quality of life, and I will work closely with the new Health Minister to find solutions”.

Her colleague Sinn Féin Westminster candidate for Newry & Armagh, Dáire Hughes welcoming the positive news said he believed that Daisyhill has a vital role to play in the health and well being of all, locally, regionally and nationally.

He commented,

“Despite the many challenges facing our health and social care system, Daisy Hill is uniquely placed to become a major driver for all-island co-operation in healthcare and will play a vital role in reducing waiting lists and caring for patients into the future.”
